Che strano questa fortificazione che galleggia sulle paludi della Marca Avilana. L’acqua che la sorregge è un fossile. Un bitume pieno di pesci vuoti sorpresi dall’addensarsi delle Ere.

Questo castello è come un alveare, ma che si irraggia verso l’interno: stanze sempre più piccole e concentriche.

Lì, lontanissima da tutte le finestre, la camera del Conte con un deschetto non più grande di un piattino da dolci.

Molto si è scritto sul deschetto di Leopardi.

Cito a memoria tre versi tuoi:

…la sorpresa è il tuo tavolinetto

a malapena contiene un foglio il candeliere e un calamaio

di cotto…

How strange is this fortress which floats on the Marca Avilana swamps. The water that sustains it is a fossil. A bitumen full of hollow fish caught by surprise as the Ere grew denser.

This castle is like a beehive, but it radiates inwards: rooms that become smaller and smaller and concentric.

There, far from all the windows, is the Count’s room with a deschetto*, no bigger than a desert dish.

Much has been written about Leopardi’s deschetto.

I quote three of your verses by heart :

…what surprises me is your desk

which barely holds a sheet of paper the candlestick and an inkwell

in terracotta …
