COMING OUT
[confessional poem #1]

Marco Simonelli

Mia madre mi guarda
attraverso i suoi occhiali di strass,
con i suoi Bette Davis’ eyes
incrollabile mamma del Mulino Bianco
sorride come una diva rimasta senza Oscar
che, in fondo, se l’aspettava.

Madre eroica: come Rocky si è allenata ogni giorno
seguendo il corso aerobica Jane Fonda
per essere fisicamente preparata
a questa rivelazione “inaspettata”.

Che non sono Schwarzenegger
l’ha sempre sospettato;
il mio fanatismo per Madonna
lo ha confermato.

“Una madre certe cose se le sente”
dice, ballerina che danza sulle punte,
Carla Fracci ragazzina al suo debutto.

Sono Gesù bambino
che guarda sua madre

like a virgin

COMING OUT
[confessional poem #1]

Marco Simonelli

My mother looks at me
through rhinestone glasses,
with her Bette Davis eyes
unshakeable Minute Maid mom
smiles like an Oscarless diva
who, in the end, has always known.

Heroic mother: like Rocky she trained every day
while doing aerobics with Jane Fonda
to be physically prepared
when the “unexpected” was announced.

She always suspected
I was no Schwarzenegger;
my Madonna fixation
was confirmation of that.

“A mother understands these things”
she says, a ballerina dancing on her toes,
a young Carla Fracci at her debut.

I’m baby Jesus
looking at his mother

like a virgin
