“I gave you my silence/ and listened to yours,/ and it was not empty, but shared completeness

Nessuna parola

e ancora gioia, mentre accettavamo,

No word

By Margherita Guidacci

And since I could think of no word

(the word was “good-bye”, but I could not bring myself to say it)

I gave you my silence

and listened to yours,

and it was not empty, but shared completeness

and also joy, while we accepted,

like the earth, our turn for snow,

the white bosom of anticipation for future seasons.
