The heart-to-heart
by Ada Negri
When I have reached you on the banks of the river of light and you ask me how I spent my many years without you, I shall say: “I continued our heart-to-heart.” Kindly you will laugh in the beam of your white teeth, and encircle my shoulders steadily in your despotic stance. And along the fields of violets that bloom only for the dead we will continue our heart-to-heart.
