Napul’è

Di Pino Daniele

Napul’è mille culure

Napul’è’ mille paure

Napul’è a voce de’ criature

che saglie chianu chianu

e tu sai ca’ nun si sulo

Napul’è nu sole amaro

Napul’è addore e’ mare

Napul’è ‘na carta sporca

e nisciuno se ne importa

e ognuno aspetta a’ ciorta.

Napul’è na’ camminata

inte viche miezo all’ato

Napul’è tutto nu suonno

e a’ sape tutt’o’ mun no

ma nun sanno a verità

Napul’è mille culure

Napul’è nu sole amaro

Napul’è na’ carta sporca

Napul’è na’ camminata

inte viche in miezo all’ato

Napul’è tutto nu suonno

Napul’è mille culure

Napul’è mille culure

Naples is

By Pino Daniele

Naples is a thousand colours

Naples is a thousand fears

Naples is the sound of children’s

voices slowly rising

and you know you’re not alone

Naples is a bitter sun

Naples is a scent is the sea

Naples is a dirty sheet of paper

and no-one seems to care

and everyone awaits their destiny

Naples is a stroll

along the city streets among others

Naples is all a reverie

and the whole world knows

but they don’t know the truth

Naples is a thousand colours

Naples is a bitter sun

Naples is a dirty sheet of paper

Naples is a stroll

along the city streets among others

Naples is all a reverie

Naples is a thousand colours

Naples is a thousand colours

Pino Daniele, Italian singer-songwriter, and guitarist whose music covered numerous genres, including pop, blues, jazz, and Italian and Middle Eastern music.

As my Neopolitan friend told me, he was able to give Naples, in all its differences, a voice. Pino spoke to them and for them.

He lives forever through his music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGo6ivsaUhk
