Sieve

#6

Patrizia Sardisco

our roots are water
she is there in my voice
in the milky lymph of my tongue

mountain white and rain pouring down

whose bequest is it tells me
it is I who must rise it
it is I who must raze it

Patrizia Sardisco’s lyrics and her short stories, in both Italian and Sicilian dialect, have been published in numerous anthologies, as well on numerous blogs. Poem #6  is from the collection Crivu, winner of the 44th edition of the “International Città di Marineo Prize”.

In Italian the poem reads thus: “le radici sono acqua/ sono lei nella voce/ nella linfa biancastra sulla lingua/ bianca montagna e piove a precipizio/ di chi il lascito che mi dice/ che debba scalarla io/ che debba pianeggiarla io”
