O poesia tu più non tornerai

Dino Campana

O poesia tu più non tornerai

Eleganza eleganza

Minacciando enormi sull’erta ripida

Nell’ardore catastrofico

Oh poetry never will you return

Dino Campana

Oh poetry never will you return

Elegance elegance

Taut bow of beauty.

The flesh is weary, clouded is the brain, wearied

Grey odourless palms stretch

Before the desert of the sea

Not bells, sirens that lacerate the blue

Not songs, cries

And on this furious aridity

The weightless form from sacred dark eyes

Undulant carrying the tabernacle of the breast:

The cubes of buildings tall tower

Threatening massive on the steep slope

In the catastrophic ardour
