This joy
by Mario Luzi This joy promised or bestowed is pain, pain without cause or, if cause exists, it is this spasm that rouses the multiples in the whole quivering like liquid in the glass of the mystic’s sphere. And yet I say: safe again today. Storming in from all sides are things and images on which the night or the snow falls or appears unvarying in my memory. Translation by ©Matilda Colarossi |
