Aristide, Nello e Luciano Orsini

Aristide, di anni 45 – commerciante – nato a Orbetello (Grosseto) il 18 febbraio 1899 – residente a Lugo di Romagna -. Dal 1924 sorvegliato perché militante del partito repubblicano ed attivo antifascista -. Dopo ‘8 settembre 1943 è membro del CLN della Romagna – raccoglie e smista viveri, indumenti e fondi per le formazioni Romagnole – diffonde stampa clandestina.

Nello, nipote di Aristide, di anni 30 – impiegato – nato a Lugo di Romagna (Ravenna) il 25 giugno 1914 – Repubblicano ed attivo antifscista – dopo l’8 settembre 1943 è partigiano a Bobbio Pellice (Torino) – rientrato a Lugo tiene il collegamento fra la città e le formazioni partigiane del circondario – trasporta rifornimento ed armi.

Luciano, figlio di Aristide, di anni 22 – laureando in Medicina – nato a Lugo di Romagna il 4 luglio 1922 – dopo l’8 settembre 1943 partecipa alla redazione di giornali clandestini – è membro del Comitato Organizzativo dei giovani repubblicani romagnoli.

Arrestati il 22 agosto 1944 da militi delle Brigate Nere, Aristide e Luciano nella Villa San Martino di Lugo, Nello in una strada di Lugo – tradotti nella Casa de Fascio di Lugo, poi nelle carceri di Ravenna quali ostaggi. Il giorno 26 agosto, in seguito al ferimento, pare accidentale, di due soldati tedeschi, undici ostaggi vengono prelevati dalle carceri di Ravenna e consegnati ai tedeschi – . Sei di essi vengono fucilati al Camerlona di Ravenna – i rimanenti cinque vengono impiccati a Savarna (Ravenna), l’uno dopo l’altro alla medesima betulla, nel seguente ordine: Ivo Calderoni – Giuseppe Fiammenghi – Nello Orsini – Aristide Orsini – Luciano Orsini.

(Messaggi scritti su di un unico foglio, affidato ad un compagno di prigionia, e rinvenuto sulla salma di questi, fucilato quale ostaggio di Camerlone).

Addio Renza, addio: ti ho chiest un giorno la promessa che tu non ti cristallizzerai in un ricordo se fosse successo quello che sta ora per succedere. Ricordati solo di me per i tuoi figlioli.

Italian Resistance: Last letters of those sentenced to death

September 1943 – April 25, 1945

Aristide, Nello and Luciano Orsini

Aristide, 45 years old – merchant – born in Orbetello (Grosseto) on February 18, 1899 – resident in Lugo di Romagna -. Kept under surveillance from 1924 because he is an activist in the republican party and a keen anti-fascist-. After September 8^th, 1943, he becomes a member of CLN (National liberation committee) in Romagna – collecting and distributing provisions, clothing and money for the Romagna faction – he distributes underground newspapers.

Nello, Aristide’s nephew, 30 years old – clerk – born in Lugo di Romagna (Ravenna) on June 25^th 1914 – Republican and keen anti-fascist – after September 8^th, 1943 he is a partisan in Bobbio Pellice (Turin). On returning to Lugo, he works to keep up the communication between the city and the partisans in the outskirts: he transfers provisions and arms.

Luciano, Aristide’s son, 22 years old – medical student – born in Lugo di Romagna on July 4^th 1922. After September 8^th, 1943, he takes part in the creation of an underground newspaper; he is a member of the young Romagna republicans.

Arrested on August 22^nd, 1944 by members of the Black Brigades – Aristide and Luciano in Villa San Martino di Lugo, and Nello on a road in Lugo – the men were taken to the Fascist quarters in Lugo, then to the prison in Ravenna as hostages. On the 26^th of August, after two German soldiers were wounded – by accident, it seems – eleven hostages were taken from the prison in Ravenna and handed over to the Germans. Six were shot in Camerlone di Ravenna – the other five were hanged in Savarna (Ravenna), one after the other, from the same birch tree, in this order: Ivo Calderoni – Giuseppe Fiammenghi – Nello Orsini – Aristide Orsini – Luciano Orsini.

(Written texts found on a single piece of paper which had been entrusted to a fellow prisoner, and which was found on his body after he was taken hostage and shot in Camerlone.)
