E avrei voluto, in vita.
………………………………………….
With me the rich man wants to talk poetry
By Piero Jahier
With me the rich man wants to talk poetry But we must talk subsistence, first. Otherwise we will never make it to poetry Oh how I would like now to be able to talk poetry! And I would have liked to, in life.
……………………………………………………
So if the rich man wants to talk poetry we must talk subsistence first. The rich man is first rich and then man. And I too am first poor and then man. I must overcome poverty to enter into poetry. Overcome wealth, and we can come together.

Piero Jahier was born in Genoa in 1884. On his poetry Renato Serra writes: “Beautiful things, contorted, nervous, weighed down with deep sighs of human intimacy and passion and sadness, which were mixed with the strong desire to create emotions of the fullest joy, and the movement of the soul in its intolerable music.”
