“bring me a cocktail of seven colours…
that I may become a rainbow”

Dalla superbia

Farfa

chioma dell’accacia
ravviata dal pettine del vento
graziosamente sfuggivano
riccioli di passeri cantori
Of arrogance

Farfa

crown of the acacia
tidied by the wind’s comb
were graciously flitting
curls of singing sparrows

Vittorio Tommasini, in art Farfa, was born in Trieste in 1881. Poet, painter and ceramist, he signed his works “Farfa the Futurist” ( no. 3 of the Manifesto of Futurism: Literature exalts thoughtful stillness, ecstasy and sleep. We want to exalt aggressive movement, the feverish sleeplessness, the quick stride, the somersault, the slap, and the punch.) In 1933 he published the collection of poems Noi, miliardario della fantasia, from which these two poems are taken.

Farfa

non sono sereno stasera
portami un kocktail di sette colori
come usano a parigi
che mi faccia diventare arcobaleno

Farfa

I’m not tranquil tonight
bring me a cocktail of seven colours
like the ones in paris
that I may become a rainbow

I decided this Sunday would be a playful, happy one. Enjoy. – M.C.
