La vetta dell’albero

Stasera ci vedremo. Ci diremo
parole che potrebbero portarci
per sempre lontani da noi. Ma anche è possibile
che dopo il sonno e dopo molti sonni
si venga a una notte chiarissima, a un’altra
giornata da intraprendere.
                                              E ora mi chiedo
dov’è la forza che prego per noi.

Se tra i miei occhi alla radice della fronte
o sotto lo sterno dove il sussulto si ostina
o nella vetta dell’albero che spia la pioggia
o in te che patisci sulle piccole spalle

.

il peso del dio senza conoscerlo.

The top of the tree

We will meet tonight. We will
say words which may well sweep
us far from us forever. But it is also possible
that after slumber and after many slumbers
we stumble upon a clear night, and another
day to embark upon.
                                    And now I ask myself
where is the strength I pray for us.

If between my eyes at the root of my brow
or set under the sternum where a shudder resists
or at the top of the tree that spies the rain
or in you who suffer on slight shoulders
