Cuore

Di Clemente Rèbora

O sciolta alla montagna

Lucente verità,

O beata dei bimbi

Sagace ingenuità,

O vogliosa amicizia

Che cresce, se più dà!

Quando si nutre il cuore

Un nulla è riso pieno,

Quando s’accende il cuore,

Un nulla è ciel sereno:

Quando s’eleva il cuore

All’amoroso dono,

Non più s’inventan gli uomini, ma sono.

Heart

By Clemente Rèbora

Of mountain dissolved

Shimmering verity,

Of children blessed

Artful naivety,

Of ardent friendship

That giving grows free!

When nurtured is the heart

A triviality lights the smile,

When ablaze is the heart

A triviality calms the sky:

When uplifted is the heart

A loving gift,

Men no longer strive to invent, but are.
