FILASTROCCA SOLITARIA

GIANNI RODARI

Filastrocca solitaria,

voglio fare un castello in aria:

più su delle nubi, più su del  vento

un castello d’oro e d’argento.

Con una scala ci voglio salire;

per sognare senza dormire

e su un cartello farò stampare:

“Le cose brutte non possono entrare…”

.

O filastrocca solitaria,

si starà bene, lassù in aria:

ma se un cartello scritto così

lo mettessimo anche qui?

SOLITARY RHYME

GIANNI RODARI

Solitary rhyme,

I want to build a castle in the sky:

higher than the clouds, higher than the air

a castle of bright gold and shiny silver.

To get there, a ladder I would take;

so I could dream while I’m awake

and a verse I’ll write on a banner:

“Here, bad things may not enter…”

.

Oh solitary rhyme,

up in the air we’ll be just fine:

but surely we could write that verse

to place on a banner here on earth!

Gianni Rodari did not write this rhyme with the coronavirus in mind, but it is so fitting at this time. For all the children.
