L’inchiostro e la carta

L’inchiostro displezzato per la sua nerezza dalla bianchezza della carta, la quale da quello si

vide imbrattare. Vedendosi la carta tutta macchiata dalla oscura negrezza dell’inchiostro, di quello si

dole; el quale mostra a essa che per le parole, ch’esso sopra lei compone, essere cagione della

conservazione di quella.

The ink and the paper

The pitch-black ink was scorned by the pure white paper for having tainted it.

Being covered in dark black strokes of ink made the paper suffer.

But the ink explained that if it were not for the composition of words with which the paper was lined, there would be no reason for it to be preserved.
